Air Conditioning problem
1998 Chevy S-10 4 cyl Automatic 130000 miles

Compressor not kickiing in, no cool air. Worked extremely well last season through November and never any problems. Checked fuses and ruled that out. Does it have to be fully charged for compressor to operate? How can I determine this?

Try shorting the "low pressure cycling switch plug" located on the top right side of your accumulator.
The accumulator is the aluminum 1 liter size can on the passenger side of the engine comartment.

Simply unplug it & short the terminals (of the wires).
The Compressor will kick on if low pressure is the issue.
Plug everything back in & buy some R-134A refrigerant from AutoZone (get one with a hose & gauge) & follow the directions on the can. Grab a Hayes or Chilton's manual (I have both) while your at it. Good stuff

Don't forget the compressor has to be on when refilling the R134A, so yo may have to short the plug again.
