Engine Performance problem
1997 Chevy S-10 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 182k miles

WHEN COLD, IT IS VERY SLOW TO FIRE. AFTER IT IS WARM, IT FIRES INSTANTLY. i HAVE HAD TO PUT STARTING FLUID IN THE THROTTLE ON SOME OCCASIONS TO GET GOING. FUEL FILTER OK. A LOCAL MECHANIC SAID A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO THAT THE FUEL PUMP MAY BE WEAK. iS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS FAILING, EVEN THOUGH IT STARTS AND RUNS
FINE WHEN WARMED UP?

Do you hear the fuel pump when key is at run position? if not:

Check the ECM B fuse and test the fuel pump relay-If okay- check the oil pressure sending unit and the fuel pressure.

What's happening here is when you turn key to run the fuel pump primes the system for 2 secs and when you attempt to start the oil pressure switch will close when oil pressure is above 4psi then from here it powers the fuel pump constantly.
