I have a 97 s-10 4x4.I have changed out the fuel pump. Before I changed it the fuel gauge worked fine now that I've changed it the gauge reads full just before the half tank mark.I have checked all wires leading to the connection on the pump, checked the pump itself and everything is reading fine. The only difference is when I got the new pump GM cahnged the style of the plug in on top of the pump from a square to a rectangle. The gave me new leads to wire it into my old harness, thats great but the old wiring harness has a small plug on it that has no where to be pluged into now. When checked the plug has no reading to it.I am dumbfounded by what has happened. Why does my fuel gauge work halfassed when it worked fine before I replaced it with this new contraption that GM thought was a better fix?Checked resistance on float arm it came back as ok.

Does it have a black and purple wire? If so it goes to the fuel level sensor-

Don't remember waht color it was I would take a guess and say black. Even though there is no place to plug it in on the new pump.

In the picture the black terminal on the right is the one that is missing on the new pump the wire that pluged into it has nowhere to be pluged in at on the new one
