I need to add coolant regularly and was told today that a new head gasket is needed and would cost $1400. I just bought in April '10 for $2800. Should I do the repair or get rid of the truck? Is that a reasonable cost for the repair?

Seems extremely overpriced for such a small engine. It only takes around 7 labor hours to replace the cylinder head gasket on this 4 cylinder motor, that shouldn't be more than $500 in labor fees, than the gasket itself is only around $40. You should be able to get this repair done under $700 easy somewhere.
