I have this truck and have a steady service engine soon light. I have taken it to several autozones to have codes read, always comes back the same scanner cannot communicate with computer. Also took it to two garages and same thing. This all started when I broke the timeing chain, and two bent valves later. All I know is the truck continues to run well with this light plugs and wires were also changed with the new chain and valves.

Sometimes in the crossover years between obd1 and obd 11, they used a hybrid datalink connector. Some people call it obd 1 1/2. I don't have anything that would check codes on your system. There might be a decal under your hood, that would show if your fully compliant, obd 1 or 2.
