Running perfect until this morning 3 miles into commute, heard loud knock and now runs as if on 3 or 4 cylinders and a new tapping from one of the valves. Sound's like timing jumped? In addition to replacing chain and gears - anything else to be concerned with? Thanks.

Before replacing the timing chain, check it to make sure it jumped time. THere may be internal damage to the engine.

LEt me know what you find.

Timing was definitely an issue. Replaced slacked old chain, all plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Now runs rough and timing mark jumps back and forth 2-4 degrees or more. Distributor seemed ok - not worn but maybe damaged and maybe a lifter is bent? Not sure at this point.

Is there any noise coming from the engine? Also, are there any vacuum leaks? When off idle, does it smooth out?
