toggle switch

we would like to aliminate are key switch and just use a toggle switch on are 1950 chevy car, how would we wire this, i did it how i thought it would go, and everytime i hit the start button the neg on the battery sparks. it doesnt start unless i put gas in it, then it stops when it runs out from the carberator, thanks deb

The way I do it when I was 14-I go underneath find the main power input feed-go disconnect the battery-go back and cut the feed wire-find a house switch put the feed on one side, find the wire that activates the starter cut it out connect it to the push buttton and the other end ( jumper wire ) to the feed. The rest of the wires cut it out and put it on the other side of the house switch and your DONE
