I have a chevy s10, 1998, 2.2 litr, 118,000 miles, 5speed, 2wd, extended cab.
The problem is that this spring when it was still cold, I live in Iowa, I switched to heat from defrost then there was this "snap" sound and now it doesnt send air to the feet vent. It gets plenty hot but it wont direct the air flow to the foot vent. It comes out the dash vent and defrost fine but not down low. Any ideas?

It sounds like the cable assy that operates the flapper door for your floor vent broke. I would pull the center section on the dash out and see it you can see the door for the floor vent. You will probable have to get the part from Napa or probably the dealer. Most of the general auto parts stores like advance and autozone probably will not have items like that.

I did pull it off and I didnt see a door or flap. It looks as though its all inside a big black plastic housing. I would literlly have to disassemble the whole dash to get at it. Does this sound right? Is there a diagram that would give an view off the dash? Thanks for your reply.

A 98 should be all electric in the controls. There are small motors that adjust the vent system. Locate the correct blend door and test for power at the actuator motor
