I have a 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo super Sport with 55,000 miles. I was just informed by the dealer that it needs a new fan Shroud Assembly. Shouldn't this part of the car last a little bit longer? What is normal for wear and tear on the fan. My car is running hotter than normal. Also, if I get it replaced what is the difference between genuine gm auto parts and aftermarket parts?

Thanks

I would try www.gmpartsdirect.com and see if they can supply the part at a discount. Make the GM dealer give you the part number for the shroud, and type that in the web site search to see if they carry that part. Should be 30% cheaper even with paying for shipping. This whole system seems to be an over engineered POS. I know the car is relativley new, and you should not have problems with this so soon. I would find out the cause of the problem. Dont just accept that it is bad. Ask why is it bad, and how did it get that way.
