1973 Other Chevrolet Models V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

im replacing pinnion gear and I need to know if gm goes by a spicific tourc on the lock nut which sets the pinion to ring gear clearence or if theres a gage which is aviable there has to be a way while producing rear ends that the manafactures uses to save time and have a high quality product

You have to put shims on the pinion between the bearing and the gear. Then assemble WITHOUT the crush sleeve, carefull not to damage the pinion nut. Next you have to check clearence with the proper gauge or with ink that usually comes with the gear set. Adjust shims as neccesary to get proper clearence. You install the crush sleeve before your final assembly and torque to factory specs.
