GM 10 bolt rear #D106 3707306

I Have a 1946 chevrolet sedan delivery with this rear in it. I need to change it to a hwy gear. Someone said it's a 1954. What can I use to do this.

Pull the rear cover first, on the ring gear there will be a ratio stamped on it, like 14-40 (just an example) this is the gear ratio that you have now.I would look at this to see where you are first. What trans is in the vehicle? The trans will make a difference on how you gear it. Get back to me with what you find

Thats an old "drop out" style rear end, not a 10 bolt. The gear you have is 3:70's. You would probably be good with a 3:08, you may only be able to go so far with tegear ratio, depending on the posi or diff, which ever it has. Im not sure where you are, but J&S Gear co. In Huntington Beach, Ca is really good and have been in business since the 60's. They have a very knowledgable staff, and can find just about anything
