1986 Chevy Nova re: o rings

What are o rings I recently bought this chevy nova and the last know inspection 12/09 says "dist o rings" may need to be replaced. What are they and is it going to prevent me from driving the vehicle. Also I think there is a small leak in the exhaust I smell exhaust inside the car when I drive it is that a fairly inexpensive fix?

The o-rings go at the base of the distributor and it should be olk to drive. If it was inspected in 12/09 and you just bought it I wouldn't worry about it. If you smell exaust get your system checked as it could be a hole in the pipe. If it's gaskets then you would have to replace the gaskets but it could be a warped manifold and that may be exspensive.
