Engine Mechanical problem
1972 Chevy Nova V8 Manual

I have a '72 Nova with 350 Engine. I'm running a 750 CFM Edelbrock carb. With manual choke.

Just recently, it has gotten to the point where I cannot start the car without pouring a little gas down the carb. Then, the engine starts fine and the car is good to go. It is not like the car sat for months or years. It had been driven/started every week, then all of the sudden, this problem occurs.

I pump it a few times to start it, but the carb. Stays dry. Pour in some gas, the car starts right up.

Also, after driving the car for a small distance, I get out and reek of fuel, almost as if the car is running really rich.

I'm by no means a carb. Expert, so what could be my issue here? Thanks!

If you have an electric fuel pump, mount it lower than where it is. Take an air hose and blow it back into gas tank just incase there is something in the lines. Change fuel filter. Take apart carb and look for any oddities in the actual plates and body of the carb, sometimes when they are manufactured a small piece of metal will actually stop gas flow on start up.
