Hello;
I have a 1970 Nova with a 307 small block. we are having it rebuilt and are selecting a new 4 barrel carb for it. I am wondering how Many CFM would be appropriate for this engine, i.e 400, 500, 600, or what would be to much.

Thank you

If stock, the I would go 400-450cfm. If you are using high-flow aluminum heads, performance cam, performance intake then you will need more.

Holley, edlebrock etc, have CFM calculators on their websites, carb selection would be based not only on displacement, but head selection, camshaft profile, intake manifold.
