Restart 2-3 times before car will stay running

I have a 2000 Monte Carlo with 140,000 miles and a 3800 engine. The car will start shortly and then die. It takes 2-3 starts before it will stay running. The only light that comes on is the battery light. It has also stalled a couple times when driving down the road. It also if left to idle for 2-5 minutes will rev and then sometimes stall. It has had it's regular maintanence. Since the check engine light doesn't come on there are no codes that register.
