I had the transmission completely rebuilt a few years ago (about 50k miles ago), as well as a entirely new ignition put in (had to get new keys as well).. As such, recently when I start my car it will start up and then die.

After another attempt it will usually do alright, and is helped by my giving it some gas after the intial turnover. It was pretty sporadic, but has been happening more often now. Also, after it starts up, it runs great. Just the initial startup is troublesome. Check engine light IS on, too.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

You might want to check fuel pressure. If you cycle the key two or three times before you crank it, it helps the fuel system to pressure up.

Have the trouble codes checked, some of the national brand autostores used to check some codes for free.
