2006 Chevy Malibu my brakes work in reverse

My brake lights stay on when I drive but they go off when I hit the break pedal

It seems like you either have a faulty brake light switch or faulty ground wire to the switch. Check the wiring to the brake light switch (under driver dash, above brake pedal). If wiring is OK then suspect faulty brake light switch.
