Chevy implala fuel pressure regulator

2005 Chevy Impala 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 54000 miles

Today, my dad notice that there was the gas linking from a part under my engine. He wasn't for sure what the part was, so I went to the local parts store and they told me that it was the fuel pressure regulator. Why is there gas linking from there? What potential problems could I be facing with my vehicle due to this matter? Do I need to replace the part? What might have caused this problem to occur?

The fuel pressure regulator diaphragm is ruptured when this happens FPR will not maintain the fuel pressure/flooding out/hard starts-it needs replacement.
