Clicking noise on start ( NOT starter or battery related )

I got a 90 Lumina with a 3.1. Whenever I go to start it I get a 'click' ( much like you get with a dead battery ) then when I try to start it a second time she fires right up. The starter is almost brand new. Its been like this ever since I got it and Im wondering if anyone knows what it could be? It drives me nuts and I have a feeling one of these days it will just keep clicking with no start.

Thanks

Where does the clicking sound come from? If it's at the starter then I would check the starter out, it may have a dead spot where the brushes are not making a good contact with the armiture.

It does sound like its near the starter but HARD to tell. Its not the starter though, it did the same thing with the old starter which is why I replaced it with a brand new one. And it still does the same thing.

We have eliminated just about everything else. Check and see if you are getting voltage to the starter, the wire that is comming down from the battery. If you have voltage down to the starter and the starter solonid is clicking then the problem is in the starter or starter solinoid.

Im gonna replace the coil(s). Once in awhile if it rains and is cold the car refuses to start at all. Maybe that will also eliminate the clicking. Thanks!
