My car has been a really good car and I would like to get a few more years out of it since its paid for but recently my transmission quit going into overdrive. Because it is not going into overdrive I am using way too much gas. Could you give some idea what it could be? The transmission has not been serviced because our auto repair guy said that he was afraid if we changed the fluid that it could jar something loose and mess the transmission up all together. Now I am having problems.

This is best done by having a trans guy look at it because it coul be an electrical problem. But considering the miles on it, it's probably time for a rebuild. If you changed the fluid after 100,000 the new fluid eats the glue off the clutch paks. Causeing failures. But adding oil doesn't.
