Electrical problem
1997 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Automatic 120000 miles

Our volt light is on and it is the color red and not blinking, just a solid red, we have recently misplaced our owners manual and we would like to know what does it mean when the volt light comes on.

Hi there,

This is an indication that the battery is not being charged, get the alternator inspected for charge rate.

Thanks, this morning my husband was on his way to work and the vehicle stopped working, he said everything went dim and just shut off, so how does that get fixed? Does the battery get charged or does the alternator? I just want to know so when the repair shop tells us I can know what is wrong, or at least have a clue and then I am not going in there blind. Thanks.

Hi there,

The alternator is the device that keep the battery charged, when the red light is on, the battery is not being re charged and it will go flat, you will have to get the battery re charged and load tested, and get the alternator seen to.
