Electrical problem
1997 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Recently my 1997 Lumina LS wouldn't start. Checked the battery and the connections, all good. I have noticed that the shift lever is sometimes difficult to move unless I bang really hard on the button on the side of the lever that releases the transmission selector (it's a floor-mounted selector). I get clicking noises but no spark. I have lights and radio but sometimes when I have the ignition switch in the accessory position I lose the radio when I turn on the lights. Any ideas about where to begin troubleshooting?

ok you will need to check the connections from the battery to the alternator to the starter, for loose connections and corrosion, then once you 've established that all that is good, then I would check the starter, just clicking indicates, a bad starter, if it does nothing when you try to start it, then its connections or battery, sometimes you will have lights inside the car and the radio may work, but its not enough amps to turn the starter, so after this you can also either bring the battery to autozone or try and jump start it, you can also try to start it while in neutral, if it starts while in neutral then its the neutral safety switch
