Hi,
I have a 97 chevy lummina with a v6 3.1 engine. It over heats within about 5 minutes. The radiator remains cool to the touch. I already replaced the thermostat.

I did a little testing myself and found out when the engine is cold and I open up the radiator cap. The coolant overflows into the pan i placed under the car for a few minutes while. Then the coolant level drops. So i add more and buy that time its full agian the engine over heats. Could this mean i need a new water pump? even though the coolant seems to be moving around.

When filling you need to open air bleeder valve near thermostat. Open run add fluid till a stream off fluid comes out valve.
