i have a 96 chevy lumina 3.1. all of a suden it wont start. i can jump start it at the starter and it would run for 3 seconds and stall. so i changed the ignition switch and still no start. my sister has a 96 lumina also that i got the key switch out of. could that be th problem why it does not start. when i turn the key to start it nothing there. i heard that the key has a chip on it and it is not reading it and that is why no start.

the chip in your key is a resistor (there are several values). your car's 'puter will only accept your original key's resister value. go to your chev dealer. they can decide the chip you need ( from your original key) and cut a key to match the lock ( from the key to the switch you installed from your sister's car). these are not cheap keys, btw. mike
