Use a digital multimeter across battery posts, everything turned off. The generic spec for a fully charged battery is 12.6 volts. Leave the leads hooked up at the battery, turn key to crank, does the voltage reading react? Another issue could be a security system, where applicable.

The purple wire at the starter solenoid S terminal, should be hot with the key in the crank position. Is it, if not back-track the circuit. With an automatic, that circuit is wired through the neutral switch.
