hissing fuel pump

Why does my 2002 chevy impala make a hissing sound. the sound is coming from the gas tank. it has 88,000 miles. it has a 6 cylinder engine. when i bang on the fuel tank you can hear it hissing lower. please help.

fill tank up do you still hear it? does it sound like a electrical buzzing or humming. if so that could be the fuel pump showing you its age.
