I have an intermitant problem with my automatic door locks. When the car is started and I move the shift lever to reverse and/or drive (on the column) the door locks do not automatically lock. I can lock all the doors by pushing the lock button on the door. When I stop and put the shift selector in park, they will not automatically unlock. A couple other things that will not work as they should when this happens is I DO NOT have back up lights. Also, I can't open the trunk when I push the button under the dash, with the car in PARK. The only way I can use that button under the dash to operate the electric trunk opener is if the ignition is in the off position. After varying lenghts of time (weeks to months) all of a sudden all will start working. One other thing I notice when it is NOT working properly, I hear a single CLICK from under the dash only when the brake pedal is released, never when I apply the brakes. Sorry for the long message, but I wanted to give as much information as possible. I would appreciate any help or suggestions! Thanks, John

IS the check engine light on? Needs to be scanned for "B" body codes. Hopefully there is a stored code that will help point us in the right direction. It does sound as though the Trans Position Sensor might be the problem, any work done on the car or did this just start?

The check engine light is not on, nor has it come on while this is going on. No work done on the vehicle, except last oil change, but has happened before and after that. Vehicle was never in an accident and has @ 44,000 miles. Owned it since new, only dealer service since new was replacing two rear brake rotors. How is the trans positioning sensor checked or adjusted? Never have a problem with starting the vehicle ( I know the older cars if the trans switch was not made to show park or neutral the engine would not turn over). Why do you think I hear a click under the dash ONLY when I have this issue as I let the brake pedal up? Thanks John

If th eswitch doesn know you are in reverse, no back-up lights. Tha talso might explain why the door locks dont work properly, if it doesnt know it is time to lock them it wont do it. The click could be a relay geting backfed from the switch. That is where I would start looking. Not sure if your is adjustable or not
