The inside windshield fogs & freezes when cold enough. The defroster will clear the fog right away but takes longer to clear the ice film, if the defroster is turned off, the problem comes right back. I have had a few differnet answers but not happy with most. Thank you.

Chances are you have a leaking heater core. Do you get an odor from the heater / defroster?

Thanks for your quick reply.
I had one mechanic say the heater core was bad, but if that's so--why does the heater work well & blow good heat? Aren't they the same thing? Thanks for any help.

Usually, a heater core will have a minor leak that will cause what you described from steam. If you smell coolant, it is most likely the heater core and it will need replaced.

Let me know if you have other questions.

thanks Joe for your answer. I think it's probably the heater core like you said, even tho I don't smell any coolant. I am taking it to a guy I trust this Thurs. He already said it could be the heater core..thanks for the reply.

It's unusual not to smell it, but it's possible. Let me know what he says to you.
