Engine Cooling problem
2001 Chevy Impala All Wheel Drive Automatic 92000 miles

My temp gauge will not register, it tries when you first turn on the car; at the same time, there seems to be a fan that is running by the fender of the passenger side that did not do this before; coolant level is full. It just started to freeze here about a week ago. Check engine light came on when this all happened. What do you think this might be?

Start by having codes read at most autoparts stores for free.

It sounds like the thermostat or gauge itself. Does it blow heat out vents or cold air?

Could also be the temp. gauge sender.
