2001 Chevy Impala crack noise

As car is warming up there is a loud crack noise that comes from the dash-winsheild area. It sounds like a rock has been thrown and hit the winsheild. Any ideas? Thanks I also have a 2004 avalanche that makes a sound like this but not as loud.

Sounds lke somthing expanding from the heat and releasing. Never ran into it myself.

This is due to the magnesium brace covering the entire width of the car. It's behind the dash. This is not a problem, just an annoyance. I've only heard it twice in my '03 Impala w/ 90,000 miles.
