Hi,

The vehicle makes a low "grumbling" when first starting to move, "grumbling" diminishes when speeding up turning into more of a "whirring/whining" sound that increases with vehicle speed.

Transmission shifts do not change the sound.

As speed increases/decreases, the sound increases/decreases it's pitch accordingly.

An associated vibration goes along with this nose, and it "feels" like it's coming from the front left wheel, even though the vehicle has new front rotors/pads and a new front left hub assembly.

At higher speeds (50+) the sound gets higher, and the radio is needed if you wish to drown the sound out.

I read about a driveshaft "hanger?" bearing but I'm not familiar enough with it to know what/where.

PLUS: It's 9 degrees here in NH right now so I'm not exactly crawling around under it looking for the problem.

Anyone have any educated guesses?

Thanks folks!

Happy New Year!

these are the parts to check,if this is the problem I would remove the driveshaft and send it to a place that repairs driveshafts, these suck to do in your driveway.

My daughter has a 2005 Equinox also. Developed a hard vibration at@ 45mph 5 days ago. The driveshaft (Carrier) bearing was replaced 3 months ago. We took it to a local reputable shop. The driveshaft from the transfer case to the rear end is cv style. The front c/v assembly came apart. The vehicle is under extended warranty. The shop did research and decided to pull the driveshaft assembly and use the fwd only. This is only a temporary repair until the parts are received.
