Start problems 1993 chevy corsica v6 3.1liter
Bout 152000 miles on it
came out to start it turned it over and it dies with a long zoom sound to it. tried to start it again gave it gas from under the hood cranked but i had to keep pumping it then it backfired and died again. checked with a professional and he told me it may be a timing belt but id have to bring it in id really prefer to do it myself. can anyone confirm this??

First thing to do, To check and see if the timing chain has broke, I would remove the front valve cover, Then jack up the front end of the car, Try to turn the crank shaft pulley, With a buddy or someone to let you know if any of the rocker arms are moving, If not then youre timing chain is shot. If things checkout there, Then I would look at youre intake manifold gasket could have a blown, In which causes a Vaccum leak.
Good Luck.
