one thing you need to do first is when you turn the key to on, (just before you engage the starter), do you hear a humming noise in the back of the car for a couple of seconds?
if you do, it could be a plugged up filter...but if you do not hear a humming in back it could be your fuel pump fuse has gone out or in the worst case your pump went out, it is in your tank, the tank will have to be unbolted and you will need to get a new pump.
It seems kind of weird to have the pump go out just because you ran out of gas, but what happens is you get a lot of dirt and junk that settles at the bottom of the tank and when you run of of gas you get to that dirt and bye-bye pump or sometimes it just its time...
but if that is not the problem, it could be several possibillites. I hope that helps, I know its a pain in the you know what....
