My 1993 Corsica started to smoke after trying to start it. It made an unpleasent sound when my boyfriend turned the key. It had driven fine for me less then 10 min prior. When opening the hood the battery appeared to be smoking. It had melted through the positive charge cable going to the battery.

Have the battery replaced and check the charging system, it may be overcharging.

A smoking battery is dangerous and can explode, so do not drive it, until repairs are made.
