2007 Chevy Colorado Acceleration rattle

Noises problem
2007 Chevy Colorado 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 36800 miles

The truck will rattle for a short time upon acceleration just after shifting up a gear... then in the higher gears the rattle will fade as I accelerate at higher speeds, but then the rattle will reappear after letting of the gas in order to cruise at a steady speed. The noise comes from directly underneath the truck, apparantly not from the engine. What could be the problem? I recently purchased this car Certified Pre-Owned, would Chevy have sold me a car with a problem that was still certified?
