1997 Chevy Colorado truck wont start

My wife just drove home and she said the truck sputerd alittle so i went out to start it and it wont fire it just keeps cranking. So i put staring fluid in the in air intake and it fired up but only for a copule of second. It has been hard to start in the mornings prior because its cold. please help

Do you hear the fuel pump come on for 2secs if so do below.

Check the fuel pressure to rule out a clogged fuel filter, intank pick-up sock and a defective fuel pump and also for injection pulses from the injectors.
