I have a 2006 chevy cobalt and recently about a month the clutch has become difficult to put in gear(primarily first thing in the morning). I have checked the fluid level and that is fine. I have tried allowing the car to warm up in the morning for about 10min and that doesn't seem to work either. After driving the car for about 30 min it then becomes a little bit more easier but I don't believe a car this old should be having these kind of issues. What seems to be working is while the car is off I have to place in 1st or reverse first thing then start the car to just get out of the driveway. If you have any advise I would greatly appreciate it.

What you have described is a worn clutch or hydraulic problem. Have hydraulic system bleed see ig that helps. If not will need clutch. Is there50k or more mlies on car?

There is no trick if no pressure then master cylinder is faulty. The only trick which is not a trick I learned it 45yrs ago. Put a tube on bleeder valve place other end in container of fluid open bleeder pump till all air is out.

Hi Mary,

The clutch kit included the pressure plate, disc and throw out bearing. It sounds like your clutch is worn out and needs replacement. Here is a video that will show you how the job is done so you know what you are paying for. It should cost about $1,300.00 parts and labor.

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Mary,

Regarding your question, selling the vehicle really should be based on its condition and mileage. Keep this in mind, the money to repair it (if still in somewhat good condition) is much less than a new or newer vehicle. The car market is out of control. If you have to spend $1,500.00 to fix it, what can you purchase for that amount? In today's market, nothing that is worth having.

Let us know the condition and mileage of the vehicle. You may be better off fixing it. At least you know what you have.

Take care,

Joe
