1989 Chevy Celebrity stalling when put in gear

Engine Performance problem
1989 Chevy Celebrity 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The car starts great and purrs, but after driving fro a little bit then after coming to a stop it dies. It starts right up and idles great until you put in gear then it dies again, and again, and again. Already gave it a tune up, plugs and wires and oil change. Any ideas?

If it dies when you come to a stop, starts and dies when you put into gear, then I would suspect the TCC solenoid is bad (torque convertor clutch is not disengaging). You can remove the TCC electrical plug (square 4 prong connector on side of trans.) And see if that help. If it does the TCC solenoid will have to be replaced.

Otherwise check the IAC (idle air control valve), by removing it and cleaning the IAC port in the TB. DO NOT TURN KEY ON WITH IAC OUT and connected to connector.
