will not move

i have a 1998 chevrolete cavailer 2.1l with a manual transmission. I had just drove my car about 150mi. when i pulled into a mall entrance in second gear the car jerked to a stop but was still running. i could not get it to move more than a couple inche foreward or in reverse. I put it in nuetral and still woul not move. after having it towed out of the mall entrance the car the car drove!!!! It went into all gears just fine. but...after a few minutes it acted like it was going to stop again. i am a poor student and am unable to donate at this time but will u please help me if at all possible?

Check clutch fluid / cable

run the car for 20 mins and let it get good and hot. then check your trans fluid level. If it is low, then you won't see anything on the stick once you pull it. If it is black, then your trans got too hot and is burning the fluid.

hopefully this isn't the problem
