On 1996 Cavalier 2.2L engine base coupe with 135,000 miles:
the car overheats at idle, the radiator fan does not come on. The fan works if the AC or heater is turned on. What might be the problem(s)?

Hi. I am not anything more than a "my own garage" mechanic but i have a 95 cavy that did the same kinda thing, except the radiator fan didn't work at all, and I replaced the thermostat and the motor for the radiator fan and that fixed my problem. I would definately take a look at your thermostat. Good Luck
