I have a 1995 Cavalier with over 100,000 miles. I believe it is a 2.2 engine. I bought it 7 months ago and have had a check oil light since day one. I got the oil changed and the light went out for about two days, then came back on. I've had periodic starting problems. I would drive to the store, it would not start for a few minutes, then it would start and I wouldn't have the problem for awhile.

Today it started to putt and when I revved the engine it revved high and wouldn't slow down for a minute or two. When the engine revv finally slowed down, it stalled, choked, and grey smoke came from underneath the car. Smelled like something was burning. Please help.

Mallory...I'm no expert but it sounds like u have an oil leak. Any time ur oil light is on, it means u are low on oil. When it leaks out it will burn on the hot parts of the motor(like the exhaust manifold) and cause grey smoke and burning smell. If the leak is as severe as it sounds u are going to burn up ur motor. Look uder ur car and see if u see alot of black sudge or oil dripping, puddle in driveway, etc.. This may sound basic but I am only going by the info u gave, so hope this helps. If not...need more info.
