My son just bought a 95 Cavalier, automatic, 160,000 miles. He got most of the way home, about 15 miles and the car died. The gas guage indicates 1/2 tank of gas. The car starts fine and runs well in park but as soon as it's put in drive, 1st or 2nd it dies. I did not try nuteral or reverse.

Please help, we're desperate!

Any check engine light on. Could have a ignition switch faulty, Also could be the torque convertor switch locking up the transmission.

I had a similar problem with my 95 cavilier. It ended up being my fuel pump. Was pretty easy to replace myself. Took about 2 hours with no experience.
