I have a 1989 chevy cavalier z24 with a 2.8 liter engineon 125,000 miles. We changedthe oil, spark plugs and wires. I now have a problem with my oil pressure guage when the engine is cold the guage is at half way but when the engine warms up it drops down to zero when I accelerate it goes up about a quarter of the way. What could cause this problem?

Have you changed to a different type of oil? Is the gauge electronic or mecanical? If the gauge is electronic check to see if you may have knocked the connection loose when changing the plugs?

Hope this helps

We checked the connection but it is fine. The car runs fine so could it be anything else?

Could be the gauge and its wiring, oil pump, and bad engine bearings. Do you hear a thumping noise at the lower end of the engine.

Okay, get an Oil pressure gauge, remove the oil sending unit, now monitor the pressure from a cold start to fully warm engine. This will tell you something.

Good LUck
