I just noticed tha the millage reading is shorting out it flashing differant numbers alll scrambled.. is this a major problem??

If speedometer is working OK then most likely the instrument panel (IP) has a short in the wiring, circuit board.
If speedometer is flakey, then it may be a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensor) located on trans.
Get a used IP from a junkyard if you need to, the dealer would want an arm and leg for one.
