We understand that your problem is:
I recently installed an aftermarket signal switch assembly which included the cruise control and headlights, recently it started blowing the (ext lamp) fuse when I switch on the headlights from the switch. The daytime running lamps however work just fine. Could it be the switch that is shorting out.

If the fuse blows instantly, then there is a short to ground, 12V power is shorting to ground.

If it takes a few munites, then the circuit is overloading, exceeding the amperage of the fuse.

I would recheck all wiring you installed, to start with.
