2003 Chevy Cavalier car won't start

One day my car begain to make a ticking noise so i took it to get an oil change and the service guy said that the oil had bruned out so he put more oil in and when i started the car up it still had the ticking sound so i drove the car for about three days befor it died on me now the engin will cranck , but it won't start. Also there is yellow gung under the oil fill cap and oil and water in the air intake is this a cracked engin.

I would start with basic checking
check for spark
check for fuel pressure
check for compression

If engine is cranking
that will take the ceased engine out of the equation
but does not suggest that the engine is OK
this is why some basic check is needed
