Air Conditioning problem
2002 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Every time I turn my AC or defroster on, my car maks funny clicking sounds and my engine reves up about 500 rpms more.

do you have a check engine light on. where is the sound coming from. is it coming from the engine area. your compressor may be going bad

there is no check engine light on, the sound is coming from the engine compartent. I asked a mechanic around here nad he told me that Cav's do that cause there engine is too small for the AC, but I am calling BS cause I have never heard of that before. That is why I have come on here to ask the question. If the compressor is out, how much do you think that it cost, and could I put it in myself. I have limited knowledge but I am pretty handy, Thanks

without hearing it its hard for me to tell you what it is. they are not bad to do if you have the proper tools. if you are unsure call another shop and have a second opinion. I think he is full of crap also
