I took my car into the shop last night and they said it weill be $2000 to repair the headgasket. It involves sending the part to a machine shop adn a whole bunch of labor to put it back in along with a Thrmostat, Cooling system flush, spark plugs, and oil change.

I thought that my windshield wiper fluid was low, but it was the anitfreeze/coolant. Sigh. I had the car checked out when I bought it and the mechanic has said there may be a leak in the water pump, but time would tell. It sounds like that is what lead to my problem.

Any advice or direction would be appreaciated. Should I fix the car, is there a cheaper solution?

Well if it overheated badly and caused the heads to warp then there is no way around having them machined other then buying new ones. But for everything you listed 2,000 is not a bad price.
