I had a new engine installed at 98000 miles. Everything has been fine. Last week, I went into the dealership for a routine oil change, and they told me that my water pump was bad. I had my water pump replaced, but 3 days later, I returned because I smelled anti-freeze when I would turn on the heat. The dealership told me that they checked it, and it was fine. The smell was probably due to spillage, and that it should go away in a few days. Everything has been ok, until today. I was ideling on a steep hill, and my coolant light came on, and it remained on for 2 or 3 minutes, and turned off. My coolant level is full, so I don't know what to do? What could it be?

Hi there,

This just may of been due to the fact that the car was on an angle, and the low coolant level sensor was tripped, if the coolant level is ok, just keep a close eye on it and report back and change, also report this to the repairer and ask them to do a coolant pressure test, this will locate any external coolant leak.

Well, thanks for the advice. I will ask about that. Since I posted this last night, the coolant light has come on a dozen more times, and I am doomed to spend tomorrow in the repair shop.

Hopefully, it has not yet done damage to my engine.

Hi there, if the light is on & off and the coolant level is ok, it may just be a faulty sensor, I don't think that you have a lot to worry about.
