1999 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Ok, i just recently got the car knowing it had a great many problems with it. the previous owner has had it a very long time and performed no services on it other than refueling. its a wonder it runs in the first place. the issues im running into now after restoring what little i know how to do are: it jerks when upshifting, the temp gage on the dash moves VERY rarely, it usually requires that i pump the gas to get it to fire, and i cant seem to keep the radiator/overflow tank full. like i said im sure its not just one problem, but i would first like it to not turn off in the middle of stop and go traffic and then tackle the next problem from there. any advice u have would be extremely helpful.
